BENNINGTON – A battle between two Class B basketball powerhouses never really materialized Monday, as No. 11 Moyers throttled No. 17 Bennington by a score of 67-40.

The Tigers (10-1) raced out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter by getting transition baskets from numerous steals. When the Bears did get a shot off, it was often blocked by the Moyers defense.

It wasn’t so much a height advantage, but the athleticism of the Tigers which helped their defense strangle Bennington shooters. Fueled by textbook ball movement, Moyers mounted a 16-6 run in the second quarter to take a 37-18 halftime lead.

Bennington made a run early in the third. A scooping shot from Chance Haislip cut the lead to 39-24, but Moyers got it back to a 20-point gap. Isaac Perez hit a three and the lead was down to 15 again before a 13-7 fourth quarter run doomed the Bears (10-4).

Haislip led the Bears with 15 points, Tad Holt scored 11, Perez finished with seven, Devin Dophied scored five and Ryan Lott was held to two points. Caleb Armstrong led the Tigers with 25.

Bennington travels to Coleman on Thursday for another big test; the Wildcats (11-2) are the No. 13 team in Class B.
