The first home to be featured during this year’s Parade of Homes will be the home of Jonathan and Carissa Mason and their five children.

The home is located at 101 S. 2nd Ave. in Durant above The Glittering Door Children’s Boutique. The boutique is owned by Carissa. Jonathan works as a computer technician for local schools.

The home has an Old World, Traditional style with a bit of whimsy and shabby chic designed by Mrs. Mason. The building itself is a colonial style building built in 1902.

The Masons purchased the building in 2009 and after a 1.5 year renovation, moved into their home in September 2011.

Before the Masons’ purchase, the building had housed a bank, a women’s shelter and several Doctor’s offices.

The building had been abandoned for 50 years following a fire before the Masons purchased it. Today the home consists of four bedrooms, 3 ½ bathrooms and an art studio.

The home still contains many of its original features, including tin tile on the wall of the staircase entry and the original front door.
