Southeastern opens the Great American Conference home schedule tonight with Arkansas Tech visiting Bloomer Sullivan Arena and the first game tipping off at 5:30 p.m.

Harding is here for a 2 p.m. start on a Saturday twinbill.

There are five undefeated women’s teams in GAC play with Southwestern, Ouachita Baptist and Northwestern at 2-0 each.

Harding and Arkansas Tech are each 1-0.

The men also show five unbeaten teams in GAC competition. Henderson State, Southwestern and Norhwestern are each 2-0 with Harding and Arkansas Tech tied at 1-0.

The latest women’s conference standings show Southwestern at 6-1 (2-0), Ouachita Baptist at 4-1 (2-0) and Northwestern at 3-4 (2-0).

Harding is 3-2 (1-0) and Tech 2-2 (1-0).

East Central is 4-2 (1-1), Henderson State 3-2 (1-1), Southern Nazarene 3-4 (0-2), Arkansas-Monticello 2-4 (0-2), Southeastern 1-5 (0-2) and Southern Arkansas 0-5 (0-2).

For the men, Henderson State is a perfect 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the GAC.

Southwestern is 3-3 (2-0), Northwestern 3-4 (2-0), Harding is also perfect at 6-0 and 1-0 and Tech is 2-3 (1-0).

Ouachita Baptist is 4-2 (1-1), Southeastern is 5-3 (1-1), Monticello 3-3 (0-2), Southern Arkansas 3-3 (0-2), Southern Nazarene 3-3 (0-2) and East Central 2-5 (0-2).

COACH DARIN GROVER’S Storm ladies must find a way to handle Arkansas Tech’s Jessica Weatherford, a 6-0 senior forward who was named the GAC Player of the Week after knocking in a career-high 32 points for the Golden Suns in a 20-point win, 81-61, against Southern Nazarene. She also collected 12 rebounds.

Weatherford leads the Golden Suns at 19.3 points and nine rebounds per game. In GAC play, she is averaging 32 points and 12 boards. On the season, she hits 90 percent of her free throws, nailing 23 of 25.

Roselis Silva, a 5-6 senior guard, scores 9.5 points per game and leads the club with 22 assists.

Bailey Welch sets the pace for the Storm with 15 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She hits 90.9 percent at the line with 30 of 33 and shoots 34.8 percent from beyond the arc with eight of 23.

Ronay English is the second-leading scorer with 10.5 points. She averages 3.3 boards and is 12 of 15 (80 percent) at the charity stripe.

Haley Schaefer barely misses double-digit scoring at 9.5 points and leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per game.

Emily Williams averages 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and has hit 21 of 24 (87.5 percent) at the free-throw line.

Taylor Richards is scoring 6.2 points per game, is the second-leading rebounder with 5.3 boards a game and leads the team with 24 assists.

The Storm have battled slow starts this season. Strong second halves have left the ladies a bit short on the scoreboard.

A big, noise crowd for tonight’s 5:30 tipoff wouldn’t hurt a thing.

Southeastern will take on Harding at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bisons are playing at East Central tonight.

Shana Holmes, a 5-3 sophomore guard, leads HU at 14.4 points per game. She went into the EC game averaging 11 ppg in conference play. Aerielle Saunders, a 6-1 sophomore forward, averages 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds overall and that jumps to 19 and 11 in GAC competition.

COACH KELLY GREEN’S men will try to put the clamps on Tech’s Will Paul, a 6-10 senior center who transferred from Stanford University.

Paul is averaging 9.6 points and three rebounds per game. Jared Williamson, a 6-1 senior guard, averages 10.2 points and three boards per contest.

Southeastern will counter with three in double digits and two more just off the mark.

Urald King averages 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the team in both categories, but has played in only one game due to an injury that will sideline him the rest of the way. He will apply for a medical redshirt at the end of the season.

Chris Roussell is averaging 15.9 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent on 3-pointers (13 of 35).

Steven Kohli scores 13.3 points and grabs 7.4 boards per game with 12 of 32 (37.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

Mateus Oliveira averages 10.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Andris Misters scores 9.8 points per game. Travis Timmons averages 9.1 points and leads the team with 60 assists (7.5 per game).

Saturday’s game against Harding will feature the Bisons’ 6-8 senior forward, Zach Roddenburg, who averages 21.7 points and 9.5 rebounds overall while scoring 32 a game and grabbing seven boards in conference play.

Bradley Spencer, a 6-1 senior guard, is averaging 15.2 and 17 while collecting 7.3 and nine rebounds. He has hit 10 of 23 three-pointers overall with three of four in GAC competition.

THIS WEEKEND’S games will leave only one home date in 2012.

Southeastern’s women will host St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Texas, in a single game at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 17.

The ladies will visit Oklahoma Wesleyan for a 2:30 p.m. tip on Monday, December 31.

Both men and women return to action on Thursday, January 3, 2013, when Southern Arkansas visits the Snake Pit.
