WILBURTON – The Silo Lady Rebels ended their magical run through the 2A basketball playoffs on Friday with a 66-51 loss to Preston.

Kenslie Stanley scored a game-high 25 points in her final basketball game, which included nine points in the fourth quarter during a late Silo rally. Jacque Hendricks had eight off the bench, Hannah Bourne and Mary Grider scored six each.

Rachel Grider had a single three-pointer during the fourth quarter rally, and hitting late free throws were Josie Bennett (two) and Kara Felton (1).

“We had a good year and great senior leadership,” said Silo Coach Dax Simon, whose Lady Rebels won 20 games and got within one game of the state finals. “The girls played beyond their expectations. But we got beat by a team that’s probably better than us, and we tip our hat to Preston.”

Stifling defensive pressure from the Lady Pirates gummed up Silo’s passing, as the Preston girls seemed to get a hand on every other Silo possession. It helped Preston build a 21-10 lead after one quarter and a 35-18 halftime lead.

By the time the fourth quarter started, Preston had an imposing 54-29 lead and it looked like time to close up shop for Silo.

But Hendricks got two layups and Rachel Grider’s three cut into the lead, inspiring Stanley to make one last push. What was a nearly 30-point blowout was suddenly a 14-point game with plenty of time remaining.

Preston took a timeout and got their act together to close out the game. Silo goes home with a district championship and a regional consolation champion trophy with a 4-2 run through the playoffs. They defeated Talihina, Wister and Caddo (twice), losing only to state-bound Colbert and Preston in the post-season.
