Southeastern Homecoming 2012 started today.

The three-day event kicked off at the Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library with a reception and grand opening of the Albert H. Brigance Center for Curriculum and Assessment.

Not much question many of us could use a good dose of assessment. The event is from 2-4 p.m., so hustle on out.

Southeastern’s Night at the Museum is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 at the Three Valley Museum at 401 W. Main.

For those with remaining energy, check out the Street Dance on the SE loop from 9 p.m. to midnight.

From the Street Dance, go directly to bed and get some sleep so you can be up early for Friday’s opening event.

The 26th-annual Whang Bang Alumni Golf Tournament tees off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Friday at Silverado Golf Course. Registration opens at 8 a.m. The fun starts when the first contestant arrives.

Honorary starters this year are Southeastern basketball legends Jerry Shipp and Wayne Cobb. Even if you don’t play golf, come on out and shoot the breeze with these guys.

From there, Friday activities include the awards banquet for Distinguished Alumni and Former Faculty, along with Benefactor and Heritage Award winners.

The Houston Debate Reception is set for 8 p.m. Friday in the Massey Building in downtown Durant. It’s the first of at least 23 reception/reunions Friday and Saturday.

The True Blue Pep Rally is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the amphitheater on campus.

Saturday gets busy with the Former Athletes’ Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Blue and Gold Suite in Bloomer Sullivan Arena. Scrambled eggs and scrambled memories will be on the menu.

The Homecoming Parade (10 a.m.), Alumni Tailgate Alley (11 a.m.) and campus tours lead up to the football game between coach Ray Richards’ Savage Storm and the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Paul Laird Field.

SAVAGE STORM gridders will host the No. 12 Tigers Saturday afternoon.

All hands will be full, no doubt about it.

Ouachita Baptist is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Great American Conference play. Southeastern is 1-2 and 0-2.

The Tigers are one of four undefeated teams in the GAC. Henderson State (4-0, 2-0), Southern Arkansas (3-0, 2-0) and Harding (3-0, 1-0) complete the list.

East Central is 2-2, 1-1; Southwestern 1-2, 1-1; Northwestern 0-4, 0-0; Southern Nazarene 0-4, 0-0; Southeastern 1-2, 0-2; Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello are 1-3, 0-2 each.

Northwestern and Southern Nazarene are not eligible for the 2012 GAC championship.

Ouachita Baptist is averaging 39 points per game and giving up only nine ppg.

Southeastern averages 25 and allows 31 points per game.

Quarterback Benson Jordan, 6-2, 230, redshirt sophomore from Hot Springs, Ark., triggers the Tiger attack. He has hit 49 of 71 passes (69%) for 545 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.

Top receivers are Brett Reece, 6-2, 205, senior from Houston, Texas, with 17 catches for 228 yards and three TDs. Drew White, 6-4, 200, sophomore from Van Buren, Ark., has 13 receptions for 197 yards and one TD. Reece (13.4 yards) and White (15.2) each average more than a first down per catch.

Chris Rycraw, 5-10, 192, junior from Bryant, Ark., is the leading rusher with 62 carries for 292 yards and five TDs. He averages 97.3 yards per game.

Storm quarterback Jercolby Bradley is completing 58 percent of his passes (53 of 91) for 659 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He averages 217 yards per game.

Quentin Morris has five receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns in one game. Ryan Shelley has caught 11 passes for 121 yards. He averages 11 yards per catch and 40 per game.

Keelen Green has 12 grabs for 106 yards, averages 35 yards per game and 8.8 per catch.

Bradley is also the leading rusher with 52 carries for 188 yards and a pair of TDs. He averages 3.6 yards per carry and 63 per game. C.J. Kirk has carried the ball 45 times for 187 yards and three touchdowns. He averages 4.3 per carry.

Team statistics show this matchup could be a squeaker.

Rushing yardage has SE averaging 203.3 and allowing 96.7 pg. OBU averages an identical 203.3 and gives up only 36.

Passing has the Storm averaging 240.3 and permitting 180.67. The Tigers throw for 200.7 ypg and allow 156.3 yards.

Total offense has Southeastern at 443.7 yards per game and OBU at 404.

Total defense: Southeastern 277.3, Ouachita Baptist 192.3 ypg.

Like just about every football game ever played, this one should come down to the team wanting it most. There are statistics for every imaginable category except heart and desire.

This is Southeastern’s homecoming and the Storm should be fired up and ready to roll.

Monumental upset, anyone?

IF YOU WANT a change of pace, Southeastern volleyball has your back.

Coach Jenn King’s team will host GAC preseason favorites Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m. Friday and Harding at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Arkansas Tech is 11-5 overall and 3-1 in GAC play. Harding is 10-4 and 3-0.

Southeastern is now 2-10 after a 3-0 loss at Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday night.
