A McAlester woman has been charged with allowing someone else to use her food card.

Nakina Rochelle Williams, 28, was charged Tuesday with trafficking in food stamps. The charge was filled after an investigation by Christopher Comer, an investigative agent with the Department of Human Services.

An affidavit states that Williams’ Oklahoma Access Card was used at the Durant Walmart on two occasions in the amounts of $119.54 and $19.36.

A man later identified as Damon Williams used the card to purchase household items for the people he lived with instead of paying rent, according to the affidavit.

Williams was interviewed by Comer last month and she admitted to giving her card, plus her personal identification number (PIN), to Damon Williams. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

According to the affidavit, Williams has been receiving food stamp benefits since April 2005.

In other crimes, Tavaris O’Neal Mays, 31, Durant, was charged Tuesday with assault and battery upon a confinement officer. He is accused of assaulting Chris Peebles, a confinement officer at the Bryan County Jail, last month.

An affidavit by Sheriff’s Investigator John Bates states that on Dec., 16, Mays asked if he could talk to Peebles when she walked by his cell. Peebles then asked the control room to open his door so she could speak with him. Mays then rammed the door and Peebles then held the door shut until other officers arrived to subdue Mays, who was placed in a straight jacket.

According to the affidavit, Peebles received several injuries, including wrist and shoulder injuries. Mays had been in jail on a felony domestic abuse case.
