Three people were killed Friday afternoon when a bus from a senior citizens facility crashed on Highway 69/75, Colbert Police said. Colbert Police Officer Tim McEachern said a bus from Beacon Hill Nursing Home, Denison, Texas, was hit by a semi entering the highway which knocked it into another semi truck and the bus then went off the highway and rolled. The crash happened in the southbound lanes at approximately 3:20 p.m. just past the Colbert exit to Highway 91 on Highway 69-75. Police identified those killed as Ann Brychta, 103, Wanda Garner, 80, and Bruno Sperber, 75. Brychta and Garner died at the scene, and Sperber passed away en route to a Texas hospital after being partially ejected from the bus. According to state troopers, four other people were seriously injured. “This is a very terrible tragedy,” said Robin Underhill of Cantex Continuing Care, the parent company of Beacon Hill. “Our sympathies and prayers are with the patients’ families and employees involved in the accident.” In addition to local first responders, ambulances from Denison and Sherman came to the scene, plus two medical helicopters landed to fly patients out. The southbound lanes were closed for five hours while authorities investigated the accident.
