DURANT – Civic pride has long been important to the fabric of the Durant community. Residents will now have the opportunity to demonstrate their pride symbolically by wearing royal blue shirts on Fridays and Saturdays as part of a new “True Blue” community spirit.
True Blue symbolizes how the Durant community feels about its hometown. Being “True Blue” encourages our business people and the community in general to create a sea of blue on Fridays and Saturdays by wearing a royal blue shirt. “True Blue’’ is a grass roots initiative created through the strong partnership in our community. Plans are underway to kick off “True Blue” with a community event on Thursday, August 23, at 5 p.m. at Paul Laird Field. Everyone is encouraged to wear a royal blue shirt and gather around the entrance to watch the balloon launch and enjoy a free hot dog.
Following the “True Blue” kickoff event, a Savage Storm football scrimmage is scheduled for 6 o’clock at Laird Field.
“We invite everyone to join us for an evening of fun as we celebrate our True Blue community spirit,’’ said Janet Reed, executive director of the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our strong partnerships believe this is a beginning of a new era of pride in Durant as we focus on the quality of life we enjoy here.’’
