The Durant Elks Lodge hosted two special meals Thursday. At noon doors opened to feed and honor the outstanding youth of Bryan County. Thursday evening Bryan County law enforcement and emergency personnel were fed and honored.
During the noon meal the valedictorians, salutatorians, presidents, vice-presidents and honor roll seniors from Bryan County schools were invited to a spaghetti lunch in their honor.
While May is youth appreciation month, the Elks Lodge has this meal honoring the youth of Bryan County in April so that more may be able to attend.
Jerry Mowles with the Elks Lodge said that they realize these students have a lot going on in May and they want to be able to honor as many as possible.
“The Elks Lodge Appreciates the outstanding youth of America,” Mowles announced to the group of students gathered for lunch.
He went on to ask that these students keep showing the same kind of energy that got them to this point as they step out into the world.
At 6:30 Thursday evening, the Elks Lodge held a dinner for the emergency personal of Bryan County. This included police, firefighters, EMS personnel, highway patrol, the sheriff’s office and dispatchers among others.
Tod Harris addressed the group on behalf of the Elks Lodge, thanking them for all the work they do to keep Bryan County Safe. For those who could not make it due to work, to-go boxes were made.
The Elks Lodge hosts these meals every year to honor the youth and emergency personnel. The meal was prepared by members of the Elks Lodge and served by members of the Elks Lodge Women’s auxiliary.
