Students from Durant participated in the National Bike to School Day this morning. Children from Durant schools lined up at “Rocket Park” to begin their ride to school.
Two of these events are held each year in Durant. Walk and Roll to School is held in the fall and National Bike to School Day is held in the spring.
This year is the sixth year Durant has participated in the Bike to School Day events. Counselor Mary Morgan said that this is part of Durant’s healthy school program.
Morgan also said a nutritionist has been to the schools to teach students about healthy choices.
Students who participated received rewards such as sticker and bike bells. Approximately 75 students usually attend bike and walk to school events.
“We have a great group of parent support,” said Morgan. Children who participated will return home by their normal means this afternoon.
