DURANT – Southeastern Normal School first opened its doors for classes on June 14, 1909.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate that original opening day with a Campus Open House on the front lawn of the University at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 14.
There will be a commemorative ribbon cutting on the front steps of Morrison Hall, and campus tours will be provided by the True Blue Ambassadors student group.

“This is a very special day and we are looking forward to commemorating it with the community,” said Southeastern president Larry Minks. “We’ve had a great partnership through the years with the chamber and the community and the best is yet to come.’’
“It’s truly an honor and privilege to have a strong partnership with such a valuable asset to our community as Southeastern Oklahoma State University,” said Janet Reed, Executive Director of the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce. “We’d love to have everyone come out and join us for the celebration.” Everyone is invited to join the festivities and enjoy a favorite summer treat of watermelon.
