The Durant boys golf team have done what has never been done before.

On Monday, July 23 the Lions are sending two players to the 2012 All-State game in Catoosa at the Cherokee Hills Golf Club. They are Seth Wheeler and Jackson Stuteville. They are the first Durant golf teammates to earn this honor in the same year.

The golf tournament matches the best golfers from the East Region of the state against the West Region.

Wheeler and Stuteville will lend their talents to the East Region squad.

Both young men are are extremely excited about playing in this tournament and getting the opportunity to play with one another again, “It feels great to have Seth going with me. He’s a great player, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent Durant High School and the East Region with him,” said Stuteville. And Wheeler echoes the same respect for his teammate, “Having Jackson on the team is great, I was really hoping he would make it,” said Wheeler.

This isn’t just another round of golf to these teammates, it’s an honor. Wheeler said he has been eyeing the prize all season. “I’m very excited, I have been preparing all season to make it to this level of competition, it’s a huge accomplishment for me.” said Wheeler.

So, how does someone prepare for the big stage and to have scouts in the crowd watching your every shot?

“My practice regimen stays constant throughout the year, regardless of the event. I prepare just as hard for All-State as I would a United States Open Qualifier,” said Stuteville,”Golf is a sport you certainly have to devote yourself to, or you will never reach your goals or your potential. As far as the preparation for All-State goes, I ‘ve just been playing a lot of golf. You have to play more than usual the weeks leading up to an event.” said Stuteville.

Wheller said he expects to perform at his best and “Show a little bit to some scouts and pull a victory out for the East side. I put in a lot of time for this tournament.” said Wheeler.

Coach Tanner DuPree is full of excitement over his players accomplishments and said with over whelming pride,

“Both of these young men earned the title of All-State with their hard work and dedication. They are the first Durant teammates to earn that honor in the same year. I am very proud of them and I know they will represent our school and community with class. We will definitely miss them on the team next year. They are leaving big shoes to fill.” said DuPree.

But at the end of the day, win or lose, Stuteville says it’s about the moment, “It will be something that I will always remember.”

Tee-time will be at 8:30 a.m. For more information about the All-State contests visit www.oklahomacoaches.org.

A 45-9 record is usually reason for rejoicing, especially when it is unexpected. Coach Ron Faubion’s LadyStorm softballers won 40 games in 2012 and lost eight starters – the entire infield, two corner outfielders and the top-two pitchers. “The season we had is a great compliment to our kids an...
