Inmates from the Bryan County Auxiliary Jail were transported Friday morning to the new Bryan County Jail Addition.
The jail has been under construction to create this addition for approximately the past two years and it occupies most of the old parking at the courthouse.
The facility contains state of the art security and capability to house 25 more inmates than the old jail and auxiliary jail combined. The project cost was more than $3 million.
Two loading areas were utilized in the process this morning. Female inmates entered the new facility through the back loading dock. Male inmates were escorted directly to their dormitory through a gated side door.
The auxiliary jail which has been in use for approximately 12 years, will now be closed and used for storage by the sheriff’s office and other county offices.
