Betty Stanley has been selected as the Honorary Parade Marshal for Caddo’s 2012 Heritage Day. Her husband, Jerry, was the fire chief of the Caddo Volunteer Fire Department from 1968 to 1988. During that time he was operating Stanley’s Garage which he continued to do for five more years. He spent many hours maintaining the equipment for the firemen. Betty is a beloved fixture of the community. She has managed/worked at the Dairy Queen for 30 years so she is known and appreciated by everyone who has lived in Caddo or who has stopped by the D.Q. She has four children: Jerry Dale, Randal, Kathy, and Karla. All four graduated from Caddo High School and Kathy is currently a science teacher in the school system. The Stanleys were generous with their time. One example of that is when they would drive the fire truck to school for the kindergarten classes to see. The children would don the fire helmets they presented to them and climb aboard for an informative discussion of fire business. When one citizen was asked her opinion of honoring Betty she replied, “There’s not enough space or time to list all the good things she has done or to recognize the example she has set or the positive attitude she has shared through her pleasantness and friendliness.” For these reasons and many more the citizens of Caddo salute Betty Stanley.
