Washington Avenue was blocked off as road work began this morning.
This morning, the Durant Street Department began road construction work on Washington Avenue in Durant from Evergreen Street to Elm Street.
Expect detours and street closures in that area, and city officials advise to avoid this area and seek alternate routes if possible.
Those who must travel in that area should slow down and watch for street department personnel.
Durant Street Department Director James Young estimates that the entire project will take approximately 90 days to complete.
