The sky above Silo High School was filled with birthday wishes as 100 balloons were released in memory of Victory Wallace Wednesday afternoon.
At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, junior high and high school student gathered in front of the high school to honor the birthday of a young girl who passed away earlier this year.
High School Principal Michael Palmer said the tragedy has been difficult for a lot of people in the community including the family, the students and the staff at Silo schools.
The first four balloons were released by Victoria’s younger sister Ashley Wallace. The student sang Happy Birthday as the rest of the balloons were released into the air.
Ashley Wallace organized the event to honor her sister Victoria, who would have turned 16 Wednesday. The family joined students who wanted to honor the students.
“I just wanted to do something special for Victoria’s birthday, and a lot of people supported me,” Said Wallace.
The Wallace family expressed their gratitude to the community for all of the support they have gotten since the incident in late February.
