A special meeting of the Durant City Council was held Monday May 13 to elect a mayor and vice mayor for the upcoming term.
Mayor Jerry Tomlinson was reelected at the suggestion of council member Leon Sherrer. Sherrer said that Tomlinson has done well during the his time as mayor and he would like to see him remain mayor.
Tomlinson said that this motion was meaningful coming from a former mayor and made more meaningful when two other members seconded the motion at the same time.
Another unanimous vote by the council named Bobby Story as Vice Mayor. Story has been a council member at large for three terms.
Story said he is excited to serve the city in a new capacity. He said that Durant is fortunate to have a Mayor that is willing to work so closely with the city and he looks forward to working closely with Tomlinson.
The election was held in a special meeting Monday to allow all council members to vote as some may not be able to attend the regular city council meeting this month.
The regular meeting of the Durant City council will be held today Tuesday May 14, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Durant City Hall.
