A Madill man was killed Saturday in a head-on crash on Highway 70 east of Ranchette Road in Mead, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Skylar Briley, 19, was dead at the scene of the 10:48 a.m. crash, according to the patrol, who said Briley was driving eastbound in a GMC pickup that traveled into the westbound lane and collided with a Ford truck driven by Earl Pool, 35, Oklahoma City.

Pool was taken to the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant where he is listed in stable condition with head, arm, leg and trunk injuries, according to the patrol. A passenger in Pool’s vehicle, William T. Mays, 21, Madill, was flown from the scene by helicopter to Plano Medical Center, Plano, Texas, where he is in stable condition with head, arm, leg and trunk injuries.

A third passenger, Collen Ray Fizsel, 13, Durant, was not injured.

According to the patrol, Briley was not wearing a seat belt and seat belts were worn by all occupants of Pool’s vehicle. The West Bryan County Volunteer Fire Department freed Briley’s body by using emergency extraction tools. A small dog inside Briley’s pickup also died, according to a deputy at the scene.

It is not known why Briley’s pickup crossed into the westbound lane, according to Trooper Colby Murray’s report. Trooper Kevin King of Bryan County and Trooper Greg Williams of the Marine Enforcement Division assisted in the investigation.
