Bryan County Sheriff’s Investigator John Bates leads Stacey Jones to the courtroom Tuesday for a sentencing hearing. Jones, who was shot and wounded by a 12-year-old girl who was home alone, pleaded no contest to first-degree burglary and will be sentenced in May.
A man authorities said was shot by a 12-year-old girl after breaking into a home near Calera has pleaded no contest to a first-degree burglary charge.
Stacey Adam Jones, 32, entered the plea Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded “blind” to the charge which means no plea bargain was offered and sentencing will determined by a judge.
According to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Jones entered a home on Michael Avenue and was shot by 12-year-old Kendra St. Clair. According to an affidavit by Bryan County Sheriff’s Investigator John Bates, the girl dialed 911 at 9:32 a.m. and said she was hiding in her mother’s closet because someone was trying to break into the house.
The girl, who retrieved her mother’s .40-caliber Glock pistol, said she heard the intruder kick open the patio doors and that she fired through the closet door as he entered the bathroom. The bullet struck Jones in the left shoulder/back area and he was arrested after fleeing the home.
He was booked into jail after being released from the hospital.
During Tuesday’s court appearance, District Judge Mark Campbell ordered a pre-sentence investigation on Jones and set a sentencing date on May 14. Jones remains in jail. He could be sentenced anywhere from 20 years to life in prison.
