Republicans around Durant gathered Monday afternoon to hear from some of their candidates for different offices.Ron Boyer, running for Bryan County Commissioner, Darrel Robertson, running for Congress and Randy Brogdon, running for U.S. Senate spoke to the crowd about what they feel needs changed in the area and in America.Ron Boyer started by saying that instead of interpreting laws by how they are written, we should be interpreting them by why they were written.“Our language is always changing, so if we were to go based strictly on the way their words are, we would continually interpret this law differently each time,” said Boyer.

Charge dismissed against man accused of sexually assaulting a child

The Bryan County District Attorney’s Office dropped a charged against a man who had been accused of sexually assaulting a child.Cody Dean Green, 35, Calera, was charged in February 2013 with child sexual abuse and the charge was recently dismissed.

Mary Fallin’s decision to sign a bill that prohibits cities from establishing mandatory minimum wage or vacation and sick-day requirements.Attorney David Slane, who wrote the initiative petition for Oklahoma City, said that the new law, inked Monday night, threatens an effort to raise Oklahoma City’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
