Friends of the Library book sale returns

October is right around the corner and that means Durant’s Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is back at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Library.The book sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.All proceeds from the sale go toward the work of the Friends of the Library. The group currently sponsors the electronic databases used by the Durant Public Library.The group also raises money for and donates sculptures and artwork in the library. The members of the group volunteer their assistance within the library, as well.

Woman charged with embezzling from city

A Durant woman who worked for the city of Durant is accused of embezzling more than $700 from the city.Torri Tenille Johnston, 37, was charged last week with one count of felony embezzlement.
