Chief Pyle celebrates a birthday and retirement

About 2,000 people from across the country gathered to celebrate the birthday and retirement of Choctaw Chief Gregory Pyle.Pyle has served as chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma for 13 years and has decided to retire to spend time with his family while his grandchildren are young.A celebration was held at the Choctaw Event Center Thursday morning to celebrate Chief Pyle’s 65th birthday and say farewell to the chief.“Today is just a mixture of emotions,” said Assistant Chief Gary Batton who said while he is excited to become chief, he is also saying goodbye to a friend and mentor.Batton will be sworn in as chief for the remainder of the unexpired term ending in July at which time he does plan to run for chief.
