Durant Lions come up short at Ada

ADA — The Durant Lions suffered tough road losses against Ada Cougars on Tuesday night.

The Lady Lions fell 59-49 and the Durant boys couldn’t hold off Ada in a 56-48 loss.

Girls game:

A slow first period doomed the Lady Lions as they only scored 4 points and the Lady Cougars led at the end of the first period 15-4.

The Lady Lions offense came alive in the second period, but outscored in the quarter 14-10. Both teams traded buckets in the period. The Lions went on a 8-7 run and trailed 22-10. Hannah Hime got the Lady Lions first bucket, then Ciera Taylor got a bucket, Bre Evans got a lay up and Taylor got another bucket. Then Ada went on a 7-0 run and led 29-12. Breanna Simmons closed out the period with two free throws and the Ada led 29-14 at halftime.

The Lady Lions offense came out of halftime hot and outscored the Lady Cougars 18-12.

Durant started the third quarter with a 7-3 run. Haley Morgan had four points in the run and Taylor had three points. The Lady Lions would go on another run of 11-9. Morgan hit a 3-pointer, Christiam Chaney scored five points and Simmons made a two-and-one and the Lady Lions trailed 38-32. Ada countered with a 3-point bucket at the buzzer and the Lady Cougars led 41-32 to to end the third period.

In a close contested fourth period, the Lady Lions was outscored 18-17. And the Lady Lions fell 59-49.

Taylor led the way for Lady Lions with 15 points, Morgan finshed with 13 points and Simmons came away with 9 points.

Boys game:

The Durant Lions had a 28-22 halftime lead, but Ada rallied in the second half and got a 56-48 win.

In the first period it was the Haroon Akhter show as he scored 10 points and Alex Steve scored four points and the Lions led 14-11 headed into the second period.

Steve started the second quarter with a 3-pointer and a bucket and Ada hit a 3-pointer and two free throws and the Lions led 19-16. Then Lions went on a 6-2 run with Taylor Cox hitting two buckets and Steve with a bucket and the Lions led 25-18.

Durant’s Harper would split his free throws and Akhter hit a jumper and the Lions took a 28-22 halftime lead.

A slow offensive output in the third period by the Lions allowed Ada to tie the game 35-35 headed into the final frame of the game. Durant was outscored 13-7. Akhter hit a 3-pointer and Harper made a 3-point bucket for the Lions.

Then in the fourth period, Ada’s offense got hot and outscored the Lions 21-13 for the come back win.

Akhter led the Lions with 15 points, Steve and Cox both had 13 points, Harper finished with 4 points and Engle with 3 points.
