SILO — The Silo Rebels (29-2) are headed back to the state tournament after a dominating 19-0 run-rule victory over the Coalgate Wildcats on Friday to become the regional champions.
The highlight of the game was Trenton Long’s grand slam home run in the second inning. His teammate Parker Holland had five RBIs on two hits, also in the second inning.
Rebel hurler Bubba Roberts tossed five innings with nine strike outs and no runs allowed.
Silo 19, Coalgate 0
The Rebels took a early 3-0 lead in the first inning, then exploded for 14 runs in the bottom half of the second inning.
The inning started with Jacob Savage gifted a base and Lukas Long hit a seeing-eye single. Holland then crushed the ball into the outfield for a 2-RBI double to start the scoring frenzy, and later scored on a wild throw to second base.
Hunter Ratcliffe was hit-by-pitch, Roberts hit a infield single and T. Long drew a walk to load the bases. Then Karson Rogers drove in two runs on double to left field and Trevor Daily hit a sacrifice fly.
With two outs, the Rebels loaded the bases again. Jake Hamilton hit a single and Savage and L. Long both drew walks. Then T. Long dug into the batters box and hammered a grand slam homer over the right field wall and the Rebels led 17-0.
Coalgate went down in order in the top of the third inning as Roberts struck out two batters and made the other ground out.
Silo added another run in the bottom half of the third inning when Savage got on base due to a throwing error and L. Long drove in his teammate on a ball hit into the outfield gap for a double.
In the top of the fourth inning, Coalgate couldn’t solve Silo’s defense and went down in order again on two ground outs and a strike out.
Silo put one more run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth and Roberts closed out the in the top of the fifth as he struck out three batters.
The Rebels are on track to win back-to-back titles as the won the state tournament in the fall.
