Two Durant shoppers got a little padding in their Christmas budgets courtesy of the Durant Main Street’s Dash for Cash promotion and Discover Durant grant.
Teddie Gabbart won a $1,500 shopping spree and Pat Currence took home the grand prize, a $5,000 shopping spree. Gabbart and Currence will be able to finish their shopping in any downtown business participating in the promotion. Stephanie Gardner, executive director of Durant Main Street, said how and where they spend their winnings is up to them.
“You can spend it all on one big item or you can spread it around our local businesses,” she said after the drawing Thursday night.
The $5,000 grand prize was sponsored by a Discover Durant grant from the Tourism and Economic Development Authority. This is the first grant awarded from the lodging tax collected by the Authority.
The grand prize drawing was preceded by Our Favorite Things drawings. Shoppers whose names were drawn received merchandise and gift certificates from participating businesses. Their names were returned to the barrel as they were still qualified for the grand prizes.
Shoppers who spent at least $200 at local shops between Nov. 20 and Dec. 20 were eligible to select a gift from under the Christmas tree in the Durant Main Street office on Second Avenue in Durant. Each gift was worth $25 and entered the shopper in the Dash for Cash Christmas Giveaway.
