A Bokchito woman involved in a crash three years ago where one of the victims later died is now facing a felony charge.
Thirty-two-year-old Lisa Nicole Smith has been charged with first-degree manslaughter for a Jan. 8, 2016, crash that fatally injured Jay Gamble.
According to a court document, Smith was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash that occurred east of Durant on Highway 70 near Hickory Hollow Road.
She also did not have insurance at the time of the accident.
The charge is the result of the completion of an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and a review of the report by the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office.
According to an OHP report at the time of the crash, Smith was driving westbound when her car travelled left of center and struck Gamble’s vehicle head on.
Smith was seriously injured in the crash, according to the OHP report.
A warrant has been issued for Smith’s arrest.
In other crime news, Deputy Tyler Balentine responded to a burglary on Monday in the 700 block of Hoover Road.
Eugene Simpson said the home had been burglarized several times recently and he discovered it had been burglarized again.
Simpson’s son had stopped by to check the house because it is vacant and he discovered the back door was open and an air conditioner had been stripped, according to the report. There are no suspects.
