Azuara Nabs GAC Defensive Honor

DURANT, Okla. - Lunden Azuara pushed her streak of Great American Conference Player of the Week honors to five-straight weeks, but picked up a new honor in doing so, earning defensive honors for the first time this season.

Azuara led the Savage Storm to a 3-0 week while pacing the defense with a total of 90 digs for an average of 7.5 per set. She reached the 20-dig mark in all three matches, including her best performance of 35 digs in a 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist.

She totaled 31 digs in a five-set win over Central Oklahoma and 24 in a 3-0 sweep over Henderson State. She also had a total of seven blocks throughout the week.

In addition to her defensive numbers, Azuara totaled 65 kills throughout the week for an average of 5.42 per set, and has lifted her season average in kills to 4.65 per set, which is good for fifth in the nation.

She was edged out for her fifth-straight offensive player of the week award by East Central's Tatiana Booth who averaged 3.67 kills per set for the week.

SE will be back on the court Oct. 25 when it travels to Weatherford, Okla., to face Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m.
