The town of Calera’s Board of Trustees conducted a public hearing on Thursday to discuss a proposed annexation of a portion of Highway 69/75.
The annexation includes only Highway 69/75 right-of-way. The stretch of highway runs from Platter Road and Platter Cut-Off.
This would allow any person owning land adjacent to that portion of the highway to be within city limits if they so choose.
The annexation however, would not bring the land into city limits because it only includes the highway. To be within city limits the landowner would have to request it.
Without the annexation there are restrictions that may prevent a landowner adjacent to the highway from going into city limits.
If two people own land adjacent to each other and only one wants to be within city limits, they cannot without the other joining city limits as well, according to board member Vicky Barkley.
After all questions were answered, the annexation showed to have no opposition at the hearing.
