Teams rather lose at the hands of the other team - not on a call from an official.

The Durant Lady Lions began the first round of Regional playoffs yesterday against Pryor in McAlester, Ok. and came up short losing 3-2. They also loss the fight against the officials.

In the the top of six inning, the Lady Lions were down 3-0 to Pryor. Then the Lady Lions bats came alive and began a rally that had Pryor biting their collective nails.

The Lions’ Kenzi Clapp got the rally started in the bottom of the sixth inning with a well place bunt and ran it out to be safe at first base. Facing two outs, Kailyn Ward stepped into the batters box and nailed the ball into the outfield for a double. Then Kylie Manning knocked in the base runners with a hard grounder up the middle and the ball bounced off the second base bag for a two RBI double. The Lions cut into Pryor’s lead 3-2.

After the Pryor was shut down in the top of seventh, the Lady Lions were ready to complete it’s come back, but a phatom call - that needed a team of lawyers to understand it, doomed Durant.

With one out, Riley Andis and Macy Powell was at first and second. Then Katie Caraway smoke a ball to the short stop and she couldn’t make the throw in time to first and Andis scored to tie the game. However, the official stepped in and called Powell out for interference with the short stop and order Andis back to third base, which took the run away from Durant.

That call left the Lady Lions with two outs and runners at the corners. But Durant couldn’t bring home the runners and fell in the first round of regional play.

Today, the Lady Lions make the trek back to McAlester and will have to win three straight games if they want to make it to the State Tournament. The first game begins at noon.
