Through Nov. 17, the Red River Ford food drive to benefit the area food banks and Bryan County and the City of Durant having a competition to see who can raise the most.

The overall goal is to provide 50,000 pounds and $5,000 financial support, which will be shared among six area food banks, which are: Hands of Hope; Families Feeding Families; Salvation Army; St. Catherine’s; The River; and Bread of Life.

The City of Durant has challenged the County to a friendly competition to see which can bring in the most.

“Times are hard, and these food banks are often the only source of meals for way too many of our friends and neighbors,” said Bryan County Treasurer Nancy Conner. “So, if you aren’t already involved in another group effort toward helping these food banks, I’m asking you to drop off any donation to one of the County offices now located at 323 W. Beech Street in the old Robert L. Williams Library building, to assist us in our effort.

“The food banks, and the people they serve, will be blessed by your giving. But the real winners are those of you who give. Try it and see.”
