J.R. “Pops” Taylor a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away at his home on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the age of 70 years 7 months and 17 days. He was born to Sherman Presley and Annie (Davenport) Taylor in Lookeba, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 28, 1942.

Pops was a man who loved to go fishing and camping. He could often be found outside working on his vehicles, his love of racing sent him to the track every Saturday. Pops cherished his children, grandchildren and family and the time they spent together. He looked forward to family reunions and spent all year planning and preparing for them.

Mr. Taylor is survived by the mother of his children and special companion, Barbara Taylor of Hobbs, New Mexico; daughters, LaRhonda Gibson of Calera, Oklahoma, Debbie Parrott of Durant, Oklahoma and Sondra Grider of McKinney, Texas; sons, Jeffery Taylor of Durant, Oklahoma and Jerry Taylor of Durant, Oklahoma; brothers, CJ “Bud” Taylor of Hobbs, New Mexico, Ted Taylor of Eunice, New Mexico, Richard Taylor of Hobbs, New Mexico, Leroy Taylor of Lakelane, Florida, Tim Taylor of Hobbs, New Mexico and Ray Taylor of Denison, Texas; sisters, Opal Dudley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ellen Kopsinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Elnor Bates of Hobbs, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Annie Taylor; granddaughters, Heather Taylor and Tammy Taylor; brothers, Elzie, Dow and Bill Taylor; sister, Wanda Bass.

Family Hour will be from 6-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Bible Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Wesley officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeramie Gibson, Justin Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Scotty Ray Parrott, Jason Parrott, Diane Taylor, Ja’lyn Johnson Grider and Shelby Grider. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Hearon, Jerry Gibson, Scotty Parrott, Eric Grider, Chris Gibson, Don Welch and Calvin Bass.
