With Labor Day behind us, we have gotten through what are considered the summer holidays. During those times there has been a nationwide campaign focused on the identification and apprehension of drivers who are under the influence of intoxicating substances. Most law-enforcement agencies in the

state, including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, take part in the national initiative.

Although that program is complete, your Troopers continue to patrol the state in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the road. It is one of

the ways that we are able to increase safety on our public roads. We are fast approaching what is considered the holiday season and with that come more opportunities for Oklahoma drivers to make good choices.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years eve all present people with decisions that may change their lives. Choosing not to drive after drinking

is a healthy, happy choice. The consequences of driving after drinking are irreversible and often terrible.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is committed to removing all intoxicated drivers from Oklahoma’s roadways. However, the reality is that we are not

always successful before they have collisions.

Remember, if you drink, don’t drive. Have an alternate plan such as a designated driver, call a cab or a friend. The choices you make may keep you from being involved in a tragedy. At the very least, good choices may save you time and money. Think before you drink!
