Thursday Nov. 1 , the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding a forum to discuss State Question 766 and other state questions on the November 6 ballots.
The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Donald W Reynolds Public Library in Durant.
The forum will be a discussion on the pros and cons of the state question that is to be voted upon on the November 6 ballots.
State Question 766 would exempt all intangible property from ad valorem property taxation. Intangible properties that would no longer be taxed if the question is passed include patents, licenses trademarks, trade names and brand names.
Speaking in favor of the State Question will be James Milner. Milner is president of the Liner Group, a member of the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking against the state question will be Ryan Ownes. Ownes is the Executive Director of the United Suburban School Association as well as General Counsel for Oklahoma School Administration.
According to the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce Manager Crystal Hames, Dr. Rick Farmer will speak for the majority of the forum.
Dr. Farmer will be discussing the other state questions on the November 6 ballot. Other questions include State Questions 758,759,762,764 and 765.
Dr. Farmer is the Deputy Commissioner of Government Affairs, Public Policy and Communications at the Oklahoma Insurance Department as well as a fellow the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the University of Akron.
Farmer’s views have been shared on several national and local television and radio stations. He has also helped author and edit several chapters, article and books on politics.
The event is free and open to the public.
