The Calera Police Department received a Speed Awareness Monitor (SAM) that was funded from an $8,500 grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

The SAM, which is mounted on a small trailer, is placed near the highway in town and displays a motorist’s speed. The sign will flash when someone is exceeding the posted speed limit which is 55 miles per hour on the stretch of Highway 69/75 that goes through Calera.

Police Chief Don Hyde said it provides the town with another traffic enforcement tool.

“We are thankful for the grant monies we received and vow to make the roadways that lead in and out of Calera the safest we can,” Hyde said.
