Ron Petty visited Washington Irving Elementary as a representative for Fort Washita last Tuesday Nov. 13 to receive a donation made by the school.
The school held its annual Jump-a-thon which raises funds for different projects each year.
For the past two years the funds have gone to the Fort Washita rebuild fund. The South Barracks at Fort Washita were destroyed in a fire in October 2010.
According to antiquity laws that govern registered historical landmarks, the building must be built exactly as it was before the fire in order to be rebuilt at all.
The school held an assembly early that morning during which a check was presented to Petty for the rebuild fund.
“Those kids were fired up and full of life,” said Petty. Petty said that it was a pleasure to watch children do something like that.
