CLAREMORE (AP) — Congressman-elect Markwayne Mullin is embarking on a “listening tour” of the 26 counties in eastern Oklahoma that make up the 2nd Congressional District.

The plumbing company owner from Westville announced on Tuesday that he plans to tour the district and hear from constituents as he gets ready to take office in January. Meetings will be held from Dec. 3 through Dec. 7.

Mullin, a Republican, touted his experience as a small business owner and vowed to fight bureaucratic red tape that he says is strangling the economy. Mullin also vowed to serve no more than six years in office if elected.

The 35-year-old political newcomer received 57 percent of the vote in the race for the open seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, a Democrat from Muskogee.
