The sixth grade students at Durant Intermediate School will be hosting a “Treasures for Travels” community garage sale Saturday Dec. 1.

This sale will act as a fundraiser to send the sixth grade students to a week-long field trip to the Goddard Youth Camp in Sulphur, Okla. during the month of March.

Funds need to be raised to send approximately 250 students on this field trip. The cost per student is approximately $240.

The Durant Intermediate School has been on the waiting list for the camp for three years. During the trip student will stay in cabins supervised by teachers and administrators.

Students will actively learn about Science and Engineering with activities such as fossil hunts, canoeing and walking trails.

Special guests will also give presentations on subjects such as glass making, snakes and Indian heritage.

The sale will begin at 8 a.m. and the fifth and sixth grade choir will be performing at 10:30 a.m. There has been no end time set for the event.

Donations of items to sell will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. today and monetary donations for toward the trip will be accepted any time.
