BOKCHITO - The Calera Bulldogs advanced to the championship game of the Rock Creek Tournament with a 47-33 win over the host Mustangs on Friday.
Braxton Barton scored a game-high 14 points, with Riggin Rogers and Preston Barkley adding eight each. Conner Hamilton scored six, Tanner Davis had five, and Connor Mulkey and Tyler Black scored three each.
David Dill led the Mustangs with 12 points. Toby McIntyre added nine, Leo Roper scored six, Cameron Hammond added four and Bronson Burns pitched in a pair.
Defense ruled the first half, as Calera held a meager 19-14 lead at the break. But the Bulldogs put together a 16-7 third quarter run as their quick up-court passing was effectively penetrating the Mustang defense.
Rock Creek girls 72 Calera 56
Devyn Johnson scored 27 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 13-of-15 free throws in a 72-56 semifinal win over Calera on Friday.
Taylor Pickett of Calera had one of the top performances of the entire Rock Creek Tournament with 34 points on 11-21 shooting (including 3-8 from three point range) and 9-12 free throws.
The game was close until the Lady Mustangs rattled off 19 unanswered points to take a 38-16 lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs closed to within eight points before running out of time in the second half.
Adree Young and Harlie Heflin helped Rock Creek with 12 points each, Julie Layton scored eight, Shaina Holland had five and it was two each for Arie Young and Teigan Morrison. After Pickett, Calera scorers included Ashlyn Cooper (seven), Raylee Rogers (five), Michaela Cartman (five) and Madi Robinson (three).
Coleman boys 43 Eagletown 37
Hunter Evans scored 21 and Lucas Hamilton added 10 as the 12th-ranked Wildcats (8-2) battled their way into the tournament finals Saturday against Calera.
Rock Creek JV girls 34 Coleman 24
Bethany Burns scored 11 points to pace the Junior varsity Lady Mustangs to a 10-point win over Coleman.
Destiny Watkins scored six, including 4-6 from the line in the fourth quarter. Alex Folsom also had six and Savannah Jackson scored four. Jessica Daniel and Summer Box led the Lady Wildcats with eight points each.
Fort Towson boys 48 Durant JV 38
Cooper Webb scored 10 points followed by nine from Derek Penz and eight from Tyler Stovall as the junior varsity Lions took a 10-point loss to the Tigers at the Rock Creek Tournament.
