SE Softball garners Academic Honors

DURANT, Okla. — Southeastern softball finished 10th in the country in team GPA for the 2012 season and placed 10 players on the 2011-12 Division II All-America Scholar Athletes team as named by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The Savage Storm posted a 3.46 team GPA to post the No. 10 ranking and were one of three Great American Conference schools in the top 15.

Seven of SE’s graduating seniors were named to the team which has a GPA requirement of 3.50, while three players that will be back for the 2013 season made the list.

Southeastern’s entire starting infield made the list with first baseman Christa Johnson, second baseman Lindsey Lacy, short stop Katie Campbell and third baseman Sam Vrska each earning the honor.

The Storm also had three outfielders on the list in Courtne St. Clair, Paige Priest and Darrian Williams.

SE’s top two starting pitchers in Audra Rhudy and Kelsey Reding were also selected, while catcher Kaija Morris rounded out the honorees.

Arkansas-Monticello finished No. 7 in the team rankings with a 3.488 team GPA, while Ouachita Baptist was No. 14 with a 3.413.

Southeastern led the group with 10 individual honors, while UAM added nine and OBU had eight.
