The first week of December meant some big changes for Cecily Whitson. Whitson is Durant Main Street’s new Program Manager.

Not only did Whitson kick off her first week on the job with the Downtown Christmas events and moving into a new home during her first week, but she ended the week with a new name.

Whitson was married to her fiancé Nathan Williams at 6 p.m. Saturday evening in Durant. Whitson said Durant is also the town where her parents were married 40 years ago.

Although Whitson was raised in North Texas, she said that Durant has always played a vital role in some of the most important aspects of her life.

Whitson, like her mother before her, attended SOSU. Her degree is in advertising and marketing.

Whitson spent more than seven years in retail management from sporting goods to women’s wear before becoming a marketing coordinator for a gift ware company out of Gainesville, Texas.

“Since I was a little kid I’ve loved the history behind downtowns and often said I wish I could just go back in time for at least a week and see how it used to be,” said Whitson.

Whitson said she feels the Durant is rich in culture and has a story that needs to be told and preserved, and she is honored to be part of Main Street Durant.

Whitson said, “When I look at Durant Main Street, I can’t imagine the stories it contains. If the buildings could only talk.”
