COLBERT - It was a sweet Homecoming Night for the Colbert Lady Leopards as they stay prefect with a 10-0 record after a thumping of the Marietta Lady Indians to the tune of 67-27.
Taylor Lyons led the way for the Lady Leopards in scoring with 12 points. Beilee Weger and Katherine Hair both posted 11 points, Darian Bradford had 9 points, Samantha Cummings had 7 points, Ginavee Mowles had 8 points, Maddison Poteet had 3 points and Haylie McGowan had 2 points.
The Lady Leopards worked liked a well oiled machine, with limited turnovers, crisp inside out passing, smoothering defense and grabbing boards. Marietta didn’t stand chance.
The blow-out began early and the Lady Leopards showed no mercy. Mowles, Hair, Bradford and Weger all hit from beyond the arc and within four minutes Colbert had a 10 point lead, 14-4 and finished the period leading 20-5. Weger hit her 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in the quarter.
Marietta bounced back in second quarter with a 11-3 run and cut into Colbert’s led, 23-16 with 3 minutes left. But the Lady Leopards answered back with two 3-pointers from Weger and Mowles and held onto a halftime led, 29-16.
The third period was completely dominated by the Lady Leopards as they outscored Marietta 25-4. Lyons battle on the boards and fought for second six chance points. Bradford and Weger had 5 points in the period, Poteet and Hair had 3 points and Mowles had 2 points to round out the scoring.
With a comfy 54-21 led heading into the final frame, the starters got the fourth period off for a job well done. Then Colbert’s bench out scored Marietta 13-6 for a 67-27 Homecoming victory.
Samantha Cummings had 7 points in the fourth period. Haylie McGowan, Taytania Gray and Nisha Love all had 2 points apiece.
