Bryan county commissioners saw positive actions concerning the County jail project during a special commissioners meeting Monday Dec. 17.

The commissioners decided to give past payments to Midplains Construction when reports showed that the company had done its duties concerning the project.

Previously, the construction company had run into some scheduling issues not bringing equipment in on time and also not submitting needed plans on time, according to commissioners.

The plans that needed to be approved by the fire marshal had not been turned in while the company’s work on the jail had already begun.

The commissioners elected to withhold payments from the company until the plans were approved. This was anticipated to set the project back three to four weeks.

The company has since gotten the plans and work that has been done approved and is moving forward, putting the project back on track.

Also during the meeting, Commissioner Monty Montgomery addressed a reported fire hazard. During last week’s county commissioners meeting, the commissioners were addressed about a house that posed a potential fire hazard.

Montgomery investigated the house and concluded that besides being an “eyesore” the house did not seem to be an issue.

He said that he will still advise the fire marshal to look into the area to be sure there is not a fire hazard because of the close proximity of the house to surrounding homes.
