JW Downs, 81, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his home in Haltom City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beacon Baptist Church in Haltom City. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Beacon Baptist Church, 4950 Haltom Rd., Haltom City.
JW was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Durant, Okla., to Otto and Velva Scott Downs. He was a field superintendent for Allied Corp. in Dallas for 42 years. JW was an evangelist for the Bible Baptist Church for a number of years. He and wife Mary traveled all 50 states, numerous islands and countries. After his retirement in 1996, he and Mary moved to Platter, Okla., and enjoyed the country home they built. They moved back to Fort Worth in 2006 and are members of Beacon Baptist Church in Haltom City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest, Marlin, Arlie, Earvin; sisters, Violet Jackson and Wilma Miller; son, Ronald Eugene; and his first wife, Francis.
Survivors: Wife, Mary; daughters, Brenda Rosecrans and Deborah Ray(William); daughter-in-law, Ruth Downs; stepson, David Brock; grandchildren, Ronald Downs, Sherry Rice (Richard), William Jeffery Ray (Bre), Misty Jordan (JR); great-grandchildren, Breanna Rice, Austin Rice, Haley, Caden, Trey Ray, and Leslie Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Greenwood Funeral Home.
