The Calera Fire Department would like to announce the end of another chapter of its history with the retirement of its longtime chief.

In December 1992 Kevin Carlton became a member of the CFD. In 1998, Carlton was promoted to fire chief. Under Chief Carlton the CFD made much advancement in both equipment and training, according to the fire department.

The modernization of CFD made the department a forerunner in the state of Oklahoma amongst volunteer departments. CFD’s ISO rating became the lowest of any 100% volunteer department in the state when Calera dropped from an ISO Rating of 8 to 4 in 2009.

Chief Carlton’s legacy will last for a long time at CFD and will not be forgotten by any of the men and women who served with him, officials said. Chief Carlton has served the people of Calera and the surrounding area as a firefighter and chief for more than 20 years. Although no longer chief, he will continue to serve with the department.

CFD has also announced the promotion of three firefighters. Brian Norton has been elected as the fire chief for Calera. Norton served as the deputy chief prior to being promoted. Norton has served with the fire department and EMS since 1997 and he served in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1996-2005. He is the sixth fire chief since 1974 when the department became part of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association.

Rodney Forbis has been elected as the new deputy chief. He served as the fire marshal prior to being promoted.

Ethan Beshirs has been elected as the fire Marshal for Calera. He served as the assistant fire marshal prior to being promoted.
