Ryan Minyard turned in 22 points to help the Caddo Bruins cruise past the Victory Life Academy Eagles 57-34 on Monday night.

VLA spotted the Bruins a 17-4 advantage in the first quarter before Josh English and Chase Stampley began to connect. The Eagles outscored Caddo 13-11 in the second quarter and seemed to be gaining ground when English hit a three to cut Caddo’s lead to 25-17.

But Peyton Joines answered from downtown to put the Bruins ahead by 11 at the half. In the third, Blake Phillips had three steals and scored six of his 13 points as the Bruins went on a 19-9 run and held a 19-point lead at the end of three.

A blocked shot by Stampley led to a basket for English but Caddo’s Kolten Dixon drained a three to keep the pressure on the Eagles in the late minutes.

“(Minyard) is working hard, finishing around the rim and making his free throws,” said Caddo Coach Kris Hall. We’re running our offense well and our defense is good enough to win, but our guards need to quit turning the ball over.”

The Bruins (9-6) got scoring help from Peyton Joines (11), freshman Patrick Joines (6) and Jacob Ross, who scored an early basket for his two points. Caddo will be in Boswell tonight before hosting Stringtown on Thursday.

The Eagles (6-7) got 15 points and seven boards from English, 10 points from Ethan Hollowell, seven for Stampley and a basket by Austin Waterman. VLA hosts Thackerville tonight and is scheduled to travel to Sasakwa on Friday.

A 17-2 third quarter run propelled the Lady Bruins past VLA on Monday in decisive fashion.

The Lady Eagles, who came into the game as heavy underdogs, took an early 4-0 lead on baskets from Amber Bruce and Sarah Roesler. The VLA defense benefitted from cold early shooting by Caddo, but the Lady Bruins found their stroke and managed a 12-6 first quarter lead.

Caddo was up 22-10 by halftime, spurred by an eight-point outburst from Lou Pilkilton. Tobi Miller and Allison Joines connected from downtown to pour it on during the third quarter. The Lady Bruins outscored VLA 25-4 in the second half.

Pilkilton and Miller split the top scoring duties for Caddo with 10 each; Allison Joines added nine on a trio of deep shots; Shelby Dellinger had eight (including four free throws); Ricki Braziell added six; Desiree Haugen and Emily Rard contributed fourth quarter baskets.

Amber Bruce and Macie Bufkin scored four each for the Lady Eagles, with two apiece for Sarah Roesler, Kylie Williams and Madison Waterman. Roesler also collected seven boards, followed by six rebounds for Waterman.
