SE Men: Southeastern men’s basketball will be looking to snap out of its roughest stretch of the season and make up lost ground in the Great American Conference standings when it hosts Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State this weekend.

The Savage Storm host OBU in Bloomer Sullivan Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 and will face HSU at 4 p.m. on Feb. 2.

Southeastern has dropped four of its last five games, but returns home where it is a perfect 8-0 on the season and has amassed a 10-game home court winning streak dating back to last season.

Overall SE is 10-7 on the season with a 6-5 record in GAC play.

The Storm are coming off a pair of tough road losses settled by a combined five points and both in the final seconds of the contest.

Southeastern was atop the conference standings at one point, but now finds itself in a four-way tie for fourth and could take a big step towards separating itself from that pack with a solid weekend.

One big reason for that is that OBU is one of the other three teams tied with SE and HSU is two games behind that fourth-place pace.

The Storm will continue to lean on its big three scorers this week, led by Chris Roussell who is turning in 16.0 ppg on the year and has reached double-digit points in every game this season.

He is joined atop the scoring column by Steven Kohli who is putting up 12.3 ppg as well as Mateus Oliveira who is averaging 10.1 points per contest.

That trio also leads the way on the boards in the exact same order with Roussell pulling down 7.6 rebounds per outing, followed by 7.4 from Kohli and 6.9 from Oliveira.

Travis Timmons continues to lead the GAC in assists with 6.8 per game, which is now tied for third in the nation.

OBU comes to town with a 10-7 record overall, a 6-5 mark in league play and have won three-straight, all GAC contests.

The Tigers have a trio of double-digit scorers led by Austin Mitchell at 13.8 ppg, while Colt Fason and Michael Morris are averaging 10.9 and 10.2 ppg, respectively.

Morris leads the team on the glass with 6.5 rebound per game, while Nigel Ramsey dishes out a team-best 4.1 assists per game.

HSU comes to town with a 9-8 mark overall, a 4-7 mark in league play and have dropped five of its last six games.

The contest will be a chance for the Storm to seek revenge for its first conference loss when it fell to the Reddies 78-61 back on Nov. 29.

HSU is averaging 74.2 ppg and features a group of five players that are averaging at least 10.0 ppg, led by Andrew Ensley who is putting up 16.5 ppg.

Ensley and Cory Henshall are leading the team with 6.9 rebounds per game, while Jonathon Fitzgerald is dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists per game.

SE Women:

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women’s basketball will be aiming to rebound after back-to-back losses and make up some ground in the Great American Conference standings when it hosts Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State in home contests this weekend.

The Savage Storm will welcome league-leading OBU to Bloomer Sullivan Arena on Jan. 31 for a 5:30 p.m. contest, while HSU will make its way to town on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.

SE returns home where it has won three of its last four outings after a two-game road swing that featured a pair of hard-fought losses to teams at or near the top of the league standings.

Southeastern is 6-11 overall on the year and 4-7 in league play. The team has a winning record at home at 5-3 and is 4-1 in GAC home games.

The games will be rematches and a chance at revenge for the GAC opening road trip in which the Storm dropped both matchups.

Against the Reddies, SE erased a double-digit deficit in the second half and had a one-point lead with four minutes to play, but were unable to hang on in the 77-69 loss.

Two days later the Storm ran into a similar situation against the Tigers, mounting a rally to erase a double-digit deficit and get to within two possessions, but were unable to get over the hump, losing 81-74.

Southeastern will continue to lean heavily on its trio of double-digit scorers, led by Bailey Welch at 11.7 ppg. She is joined by fellow guard Ronay English who is at 10.7 ppg, while Haley Schaefer is turning in 10.4 ppg in the post.

Welch is leading the team in assists as well with 3.9 assists per game, while sharing the passing duties with Taylor Richards who is dishing out 3.2 apg.

Schaefer is the team’s top rebounder at 6.0 rebounds per outing, while Emily Williams, Richards and Breana Small-Peppers each average more than four rebounds per game.

OBU comes into the weekend at 14-3 overall and 9-2 in league play, tied with Arkansas Tech for the league lead.

The Tigers are coming off back-to-back wins, but are 3-2 in their last five games after reeling off an 11-game winning streak beginning with the second game of the year.

They are averaging 72.3 ppg as a team on the strength of a trio of scorers led by Monica Williams who is averaging 19.9 ppg, while Nashia James is at 15.1 and Kendra Coyle is at 11.3.

Williams averages a double-double with 10.2 rebounds per game, while James is dishing out 3.4 assist per game.

HSU enters the weekend with a 10-7 mark overall and a 5-6 record in conference play, but has lost five of its last seven outings.

The Reddies average 66.5 ppg as a team and are led by the duo of Krystal Beachum and Destiny Smith who average 14.8 and 13.6 ppg, respectively.

Smith averages a double-double with 11.2 rebounds per game, while Beachum and Jill Temples are tied for the team lead in assists, combining to average 3.8 apg.
