Durant Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of North 12th Street on Wednesday afternoon.

The department sent three trucks and nine personnel to the scene. “When we arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the (southwest) corner of the structure,” states a fire department report.

The blaze was under control in about five minutes, and most of the damage was contained to the laundry room of the home. The fire remains under investigation.

Several county fire departments also responded to a wind-whipped house fire on Orchard Road around mid-day. Photos and video from the scene, provided to the Durant Democrat by a witness, show heavy smoke pouring out of a home with numerous fire trucks responding.
