DURANT - It was the last time Durant senior basketballers would grace the hardwood on Friday and they made it count as they mopped the floor with the Duncan Demons on it’s Senior Night.
The Lady Lions had the game well in hand throughout the night and demolished the Lady Demons 64-41. In the boys game, Durant had to fight to keep the Demons at bay. At half time the Lions had a 26-23 lead, but they pulled away from Duncan in the second half for a 52-41 win.
Lady Lion senior Sierra Wilhite pulled out the big guns and led her team past the Lady Demons with a 20 point performance on Senior Night.
It was a tight game in the first period, both teams traded buckets and the Lady Lions came out on top with a 17-11 lead.
Alexa Richards put up 6 of her 11 points in the first period. Senior Shelbi Barrett hit a 3-pointer, Rylie Richards chipped in 4 points and Wilhite posted 4 points.
Control of the game began to shift the Lady Lions way in the second period.
Durant’s shooting stayed hot while the Lady Demons found it difficult to find the basket in the second frame. With 4:45 left before the half, the Lady Lions led 24-17. Then Durant began to put it’s collective foot down and went on a 10-to-2 run to finish the period and led 34-19. A. Richards and Rheagan Jones both hit 3-pointers at the end of the period.
The Lady Lions picked up where they left off and went straight to work on the Lady Demons. Durant began the third period with a 10-to-2 run that ate up 5 minutes off the clock and finished the period with a 55-28 lead.
The Lady Demons attempted a come back, but the Lady Lions kept putting up points as they ran away with a Senior Night win over the Lady Demons, 64-41.
Regionals begin next week for the Lady Lions on Feb. 21st, 22nd and 23rd

Durant Lion senior Cole Hughes had a huge Senior Night performance with 18 points and led his team pass the Duncan Demons 52-41 on Friday.
Hughes hit a 3-pointer at the start of the game that set the tone for Lions. In the first period, both teams duked it out for the lead and the teams exchanged buckets throughout the period and the Lions were on top with a 13-11 lead headed into the second period. Lion senior Blake Wilson led the team with 6 points in the first period.
Duncan made a come back in the second period, with just under two minutes the Demons took a 20-19 lead. Then Hughes would rattle off 7 straight points to give the Lions a slim 26-23 half time lead.
The Lions were just sharping it’s claws in the first half as Durant would outscore the Demons 16-10 in the third. The game was still close as both teams traded buckets and with 1:50 left in the period, the Lions led 36-33.
Then Will Engle, Zac Cater and Cameron Scheussler all pitched in on 6-to-0 run to finish out the third period and grabbed a 42-33 lead.
The Demons attempted to stay in the game as they began the fourth period with a 6-to-4 run and the Lions led 46-39. As the Demons fought back, Durant’s James Donelan had 3 consecutive blocks to hamper the hopes of Duncan. Then the Lions would finish with a 52-41 Senior Night win.
Hughes 18 points, Engle 9 points, Wilson 6 points, Cater 5 points, Scheussler and Tyler Stovall 4 points.
Regionals begin next week for the Durant Lions on Feb. 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
