SILO — The Lady Rebels edged Caddo 40-39 on Saturday to capture a 2A district crown in basketball.

Rachel Grider’s 14 second half points (for a total of 15) and Mary Grider’s fourth-quarter three-pointer helped Silo overcome a solid effort from the Lady Bruins.

Lou Pilkilton scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half as well, and Tobi Miller scored 15 for Caddo. The Lady Bruins shot 3-of-4 from the free throw line and were matched by Silo, but the Lady Rebels got to the line twice as much (6-for-8).

Silo’s Kenslie Stanley also scored 15, and points from Hannah Bourne (3), Riley Newton (2) and Kara Felton (2) also came into play. A 16-point third quarter gave the Lady Rebels a needed boost in this grudge match.

For Caddo, Ricki Braziell added four points, Allison Joines had three, Shelby Dellinger and Caroline Joines had two each.

Silo girls will be in Colbert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for a regional showdown in the last big basketball game of this season in Bryan County. Caddo will face Haworth in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m., also in Colbert.

Silo battled back from 10 down in the fourth quarter to tie the game in the final seconds, but a late layup gave the Vanoss Wolves the district championship on Saturday night.

The Rebels edged Vanoss 18-17 after one quarter but fell behind 26-24 at the half. The Wolves went on a 16-9 run in the third to take a 42-33 lead into the fourth.

Silo outscored the Wolves 19-12 in the final frame with Kendall Shives lighting up from three. He had a monster game, but it was a pair of free throws from Leonard Sandler which tied the game with 2:30 to go.

After a Vanoss miss, Silo Coach Dax Simon instructed Sandler to kill 100 seconds at the top of the key, then the Wolves blocked a Silo shot with 20 seconds left. Vanoss hit the game winner with four seconds to go.

Silo is still alive in the playoffs with a 1:30 p.m. Thursday must-win game against the Leopards in Colbert. The regional semifinal, also in Colbert at 8 p.m. Thursday, will not benefit Bryan County as Haworth and Vanoss will square off.
