A Calera man has been arrested for suspicion of sexually abusing a two-year-old child.

Cody Dean Green, 34, was charged Thursday.

Calera Assistant Police Chief T.J. White began investigating after receiving information from a nurse that a child appeared to have been sexually assaulted.

An affidavit states that a forensic examination revealed the victim had a vaginal tear. The victim’s mother told authorities that the girl had been having nightmares and did not want to be touched at all.

Green was questioned on Wednesday and according to the affidavit, he denied doing anything inappropriate. Green was released after the interview, but later that day, he was arrested after police consulted with the district attorney’s office.

According to Calera Police, Green had been released from prison on Dec. 31, 2012, and the alleged sexual assaults that involved toughing the vaginal area happened on Feb. 14. Green was previously convicted of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
